Telling the real

Documentaries

True stories, told by the people who lived them. With all the time it takes to truly listen.

01

What I film

Short and feature-length documentaries: the story of a person, a group, a project. All it takes is something true to say and someone who wants to say it. The story decides the running time, not a format waiting to be filled.

02

How I work

A documentary is built on listening, and listening takes time. Before filming, I want to get to know the people who will tell the story and understand what they want to say. Then I film without asking for retakes and let things unfold. I never put words in anyone's mouth that aren't their own: whoever stands in front of the camera must be able to trust whoever is behind it. I record sound live, because in a documentary it's the voices that carry the story.

03

The edit

In the edit, the footage becomes a story. Every story has its own rhythm, and silences matter as much as words. I keep what holds the story together and let go of the rest. A documentary doesn't have to explain everything: it should leave the viewer room to understand on their own.

04

Time

In a documentary, things happen when they happen, and you have to be there. That's why it asks for time before, during and after filming. It's time I account for from the very start.

05

Where to begin

If you have a story to tell, let's start with a no-obligation call. Tell me the story, the people involved and the timeline, and I'll tell you how I'd film it. You don't need to have it all figured out: sometimes the story becomes clear just by talking about it. I'll reply within 24/48 hours.

06

Where

I'm based in Alfonsine, in the province of Ravenna. I film in Romagna, across Italy and abroad too, whenever the story calls for it.
