The story
One Stroke at a Time
Alice Di Biase tattoos eyebrows in Imola, and her technique has a name: Hairy Brows. Fine strokes, drawn one by one, to fill out the brow that’s already there without the work ever showing. The result she’s after is the one you don’t notice: a client who walks out of her studio and simply sees herself “neater and more beautiful.”
She teaches it at her Alisir Academy and takes it into competition, where she has won both the Italian and the world titles in permanent makeup.
To tell the story of a technique built on precision, simply framing it wasn’t enough. In the studio we kept one camera locked on the work and one handheld for the details, and filmed the needle at 100 frames per second: a stroke that lasts an instant only makes sense when you slow it down. The coloured LED tubes behind her and the white light in front do the rest.
Then outside, at the Darsena in Ravenna, at sunset: warm light, an FPV drone sweeping past her, a rock intro with sharp cuts. Because her work is clean, but she is anything but clean-cut in the boring sense of the word.
